Veterinary Services and Care

We offer comprehensive care for veterinary emergencies, whether medical or surgical.

Much more than a veterinary on-call service open at night, we are a team specially trained in emergencies. We take care of minor emergencies but also more complex situations, including critical care. Please read carefully this Q&A in order to know how vet emergencies work at EVC.

We provide veterinary on-call services for the cantons of Geneva, Vaud (La Côte and Lausanne; Riviera-Chablais), Valais, Fribourg, Neuchâtel and Bern.

We provide comprehensive care for veterinary emergencies, whether medical or surgical.

However, a waiting period may occur for neurological emergencies requiring an emergency CT scan or MRI. This varies depending on the availability of equipment. This delay is beyond our control, although we strive to minimize the wait and guarantee the best possible care for your animal.

Yes, at EVC emergencies, we specialize in veterinary care for a wide variety of pets. Whether you have a dog, a cat or a small mammal (rabbit, guinea pig, hamster), we are here for you in case of emergency, or even in case of doubt.

Yes, at EVC we are equipped with human medicine equipment, specially configured for emergency veterinary activity. Indeed, we have modern equipment and experienced staff to take care of a wide range of animal pathologies.

Our goal is to be able to offer your companions a level of care equivalent to that of the best human hospitals. From the smallest to the most critical emergencies, we are prepared to effectively take care of your pets’ emergencies.

Our service operates 24/7, 365 days a year. You can contact us at any time, day or night, weekend or public holiday, in the canton of Geneva, Vaud (La Côte and Lausanne; Riviera-Chablais), Valais, Fribourg, Neuchâtel and Bern, at 058 122 22 22 to obtain immediate intervention or advice on the state of health of your animal.

When you call, your request will be handled by our medical-care team. Indeed, our team is made up of veterinarians, nurses or a regulator specifically trained. If necessary, we can provide you with medical advice adapted to the emergency situation.

Yes, we are available 24/7, even if you simply have a doubt. We will advise you on the best course of action to follow depending on your situation. However, it is important to note that a clinical examination of your animal is essential to provide medical advice, issue a prescription or deliver a prescription.

By simply calling 058 122 22 22 you can announce your arrival at the emergency center. As an emergency service, like a hospital for humans, we provide care for your pets – dogs, cats or small mammals (rabbits, hamsters, etc.) – without an appointment.

Patients are sorted according to the severity of their condition, then in order of arrival.

When you call, we will ask you the reason for your consultation as well as the approximate time of your arrival. This will ensure our team is ready to welcome you and ensure that you receive prompt care upon your arrival.

Yes, a detailed report of your emergency consultation will be sent to you by email at the end of the consultation.

This report will also be sent to your treating veterinarian, as we work closely with all veterinarians in the area.

Yes, a detailed report of your emergency consultation will be sent to them by email.

Our approach is characterized by complete transparency. Therefore, we systematically collaborate with your reference veterinarian, acting as an extension of their practice for the management of emergencies outside of opening hours.

Your pet’s well-being is our priority. Indeed, they always benefit from continuous monitoring by a veterinarian and an assistant. We provide comfortable accommodation including blankets and mattress covers.

Dogs and cats are separated, and contagious animals are isolated to prevent any infection.

We are committed to keeping you always informed. Indeed, a veterinarian will contact you to give you news of your animal’s clinical progress and discuss a treatment plan.

If prolonged hospitalization or additional examinations are necessary, further care will be decided in collaboration with you and your treating veterinarian.

All EVC veterinary emergency centers have easy access and free parking. For more information, do not hesitate to consult the pages of our centers. If you have any questions or doubts, we invite you to contact us on 058 122 22 22.

Most of our consultations are carried out within an hour of your arrival. However, in the event of a serious emergency, it will be prioritized. Our medical and care team (emergency veterinarian or nurse) will inform you of the waiting times in this case. Our mission is to provide you with rapid care, and to strive to transform each moment spent in our emergency department into a quality experience, designed for the well-being of your animals and your serenity.

At EVC, the well-being of your animal is our priority. We are committed to creating a welcoming and calming environment during their visits. Our waiting rooms are designed to minimize stress, and our medical and care team is trained to take care of your companions with empathy and kindness, whether for minor emergencies or more critical situations.

At-home veterinarian and ambulance

Yes, just like emergencies in a human hospital, we offer a veterinary ambulance service with a veterinarian who can come to your home. By simply calling 058 122 22 22, you can arrange the time of intervention with our medical-care team. Although this service is very useful and adapted to emergencies, home interventions or medical transport are subject to availability.

A veterinary ambulance is a vehicle specially equipped to carry out veterinary consultations at your home or to transport animals in emergency situations or requiring medical care. It is managed by a team of veterinarians and trained assistants, capable of intervening directly on site or ensuring the safe transport of the animal to a clinic or veterinary hospital.

Yes, by simply calling 058 122 22 22, you can agree with our veterinary team on the time of the veterinarian’s intervention at your home.

Our veterinarians working at your home are equipped with medications, surgical tools, cutting-edge analysis devices (portable ultrasound, blood and urine analyzers) and hospitalization devices (oxygen, perfusion, etc.) necessary to effectively manage home consultations and/or medical transport of your animal. Currently, EVC does not offer an insurance or veterinary assistance product.

However, we strongly recommend taking out this type of insurance to help you financially manage your dog’s unexpected health issues.

Practical tips and useful information

The police services of the municipality where you found the animal are responsible for its management.

Otherwise, if you wish, you can go to the clinic with the stray animal so that we can check together if it is identified (by tattoo or microchip) and thus quickly contact the owners worried about the loss of their companion. Please protect yourself because you are not familiar with this animal.

For any assistance in your efforts, do not hesitate to call us on 058 122 22 22.

Please contact the wildlife services directly. They are authorized to treat and hold a captive wild animal.

Report the loss of your animal to the Centrale suisse d’appels pour animaux stmz (Swiss Animal Call Center stmz) or ask your veterinarian to do so.

You can also inform your neighbors or create a digital poster to share on social networks (such as Pet Alert pages dedicated to lost animals). Consider making physical posters to hang around the place of loss (laminated or in a transparent pocket with the opening facing down) and distribute them to local businesses.

Another strategy is to call veterinary practices and shelters in the region.

For cats, try calling them in the evening with a bowl of kibble in your hand, making noise. Start from the point furthest from your home and gradually move closer to it to help your pet find its way.

Once recovered, if this has not already been done, remember to have your animal identified (which is a legal obligation) and to consult a veterinarian to make sure that it is okay.

démarches.

First of all, it is essential to check the specific procedures to be carried out depending on your destination.

For travel outside the European Union, always consult the embassy or consulate of the destination country.

Also remember to inquire with the transport company and accommodation establishments on site to find out if they have specific requirements.

Plan ahead: for example, a rabies vaccination will only be valid for three weeks after its injection, so do your procedures well in advance. Sometimes, blood tests must also be carried out several weeks before the departure date.

Whether it is a bite between animals or a bite on a human, it is essential to provide medical care for the injury, even if it seems minor.

Subsequently, it is mandatory to report the accident to the Consumer and Veterinary Affairs Department (SCAV). If the bite concerns a human, the declaration can be made through their doctor, the gendarmerie or the municipal police officers. However, if the injury concerns an animal, it must be reported by the treating veterinarian.

Yes, but there are special conditions for doing so.
